Olde Crone's Bewitching Bath Soap started out like you might imagine: as a hobby. Making melt-and-pour soap is how it all started, but that wasn't enough for me. I wanted to know exactly how "real" soap was made. I began on a quest, then, to find out exactly how to do it the right way. As with most great quests, mine started at the library. I checked out all the books I could find on soap making, and then did research online as well. That added more research, because I then had to find all the right tools and ingredients. After doing all of this, I made my first batch of soap, and I was hooked. Unless you make soap yourself, you don't know this: when making soap, it's easier to make a batch of it, rather than just one or two bars. Therefore, I ended up with 16 bars of soap at a time, with only my family to suds. I had to do something. Thus began my foray into soap-selling. I took the soap to my workplace, and all of my colleagues bought it. I sold out in one day. That's when I thought, "Hmm. Perhaps others will want to buy the soap, too." That led to my participation in the Old South Pearl Street Farmer's Market in Denver. This year the market will run from June 10-October 28, 2007. It's a fabulous local market, with farm-fresh vegetables and fruit, gourmet goat cheese, fresh herbs and flowers, roasted/candied nuts, crepes, snow cones, and live music. The market is held every Sunday from 9am-1pm, in the 1500 South block of Pearl street in Denver, between Florida and Iowa. This year, I will also work the Saturday morning farmer's market in Historic Downtown Littleton, and the Friday night Downtown Street Faire in Louisville, Colorado. It's gonna be a busy summer! You now have several choices when you can come see me. Of course, the farmer's market can't go on forever. Winter does happen, at which point people move inside and shop online. Presumably, these people also bathe. Therefore, I offer this site to aid you in your quest for The Best Handmade Soap Ever. I've got shower soap, face soaps, shampoo, and even a spa soap with Dead Sea mud in it. If you have an idea for a new scent, please let me know, and I'll see what I can do. Click around on the site, check out the soaps and links, and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you. |
